So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelations 12:9) And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do ... (Revelations 13:14)
In the early 1990's, a well known singer had an infomerical for "Psychic Friends Network". It wasn't that this kind of thing was new, but that someone wellknown by the world would support such a thing was shocking. Also, a well known talk show host would often have a "psychic" on his talk show, and would have people attempt to speak to dead loved ones through her. We must understand that when people consult with these psychics, fortune-tellers, horoscopes, mediums, etc., they are speaking to someone, or something, they are speaking to evil spirits of the Devil: [the Devil] was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him! (Revelations 12:9) Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. (Acts 16:16)
This business is very profitable, because "the deceiver" is preying on people's weakness and depending on their lack of knowledge, understanding and wisdom of spiritual things. (I Corinthians 9:16) His whole purpose is to get to us, and get us away from believing God, any way he can. The Apostle Paul dealt with the demonic spirit in the slave girl in the only way that will work, by rebuking it in the name of Jesus Christ: This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities. (Acts 16:16-19)
Satan will use anyone, even a disciple of God to try and deceive man: Then Peter took Him [Jesus] aside and began to rebuke Him. But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” (Mark 8:32-33) Just as the demonic spirit in the slave girl, so Satan speaking through Peter was saying things, that to the unwise would appear to be true and in agreement with the Word of God, but again that is a deceptive ploy of "the deceiver". Remember in the garden of Eden, the Devil told Eve some of the truth, but changed it enough that when she believed his lie, she and Adam ultimately were banned and removed from "Paradise" on earth. (Genesis 3) Let's not allow ourselves to believe the Devil's lies anymore, and ultimately end up being banned from eternal "Paradise"!
