... Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”... Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’... (John 3:1-21)
Creator
First we must understand that God is the Creator of all things: In the beginning God created ... Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. ... (Genesis 1) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16)
As the creator of all things, God has the right to do whatever He wants with His creation, based on how it turns out. In other words, everything God made was good, but not everything God made will choose good (review "Freewill Within Limitations!" blog): Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel far from the Lord, And their works are in the dark; They say, “Who sees us?” and, “Who knows us?” Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it, “He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? (Isaiah 29:15-16) Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? (Romans 9:21)
Anyone who chooses the bad over the good, God is very clear who they belong to and the real condition of their lives: You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. (John 8:44) Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—... Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. (Romans 1:22-25)
God desires to be our Father, but we have to see Him for who He is. He is the Creator of all things with power over His creation. We have to submit our lives to His authority - we have to submit our lives to Jesus. Failing to do so will only lead to God having to treat us like a created thing, instead of beloved child: But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 10:33) He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
