TITUS: The Love of God: "according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior!"

This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men. And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. (Titus 3:8, 14)

First we're instructed in this last chapter of Titus to obey civil authority, as long as it does not go against God's law and to "treat others the way we want to be treated": Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. (Titus 3:1-2)  Why are we to treat others this way, even if they may not treat us the same? For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. (Titus 3:3)

But what makes us Christians different, and able to behave differently than we used to and than many others do? But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spiritwhom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)

We who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord have received the most precious gift anyone could ever receive, the Beloved of God: And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22); And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” (Mark 9:7; Matthew 17:5; Luke 9:35)

For those of us who have or have had children, we truly understand this feeling of unconditional love. That's how God the Father feels about His Son, but even more than we can imagine.  Not only does He love His Son, but He loves us just as much, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16); For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8)

But God didn't allow His Son to just die, For [Christ said] You will not leave my soul in Sheol [hell], Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. (Psalm  16:10) ...Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,... (I Corinthians 15:3-4) And just as God raised Christ from the dead, He has done the same for us who have believed in Christ as our Savior and Lord, for ...if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11)

Those of us who have accepted this most precious gift from God, salvation through His Son, Christ Jesus, must share this Truth with as many people as we can, whenever the opportunity presents itself.  But understand, we don't have a heaven or a hell to put ourselves or anyone else in, so we are not to argue with anyone or try to convince anyone of anything: But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned. (Titus 3:9-11)

Jesus said, "I will send Him [the Helper, the Holy Spirit] to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:..." (John 16:7-8) As the Apostle Paul once said, I planted [seed of the Word], [another] watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. (I Corinthians 3:6-7) The message of the gospel of Christ Jesus is simple and for ALL people. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! (Matthew 11:15, 13:9, 43; Mark 4:9, 23, 7:16; Luke 8:8, 14:35; Revelations 2:7)

Paul concludes with his customary acknowledgments and greetings: When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing. ... All who are with me greet you. Grace be with you all. Amen. (Titus 3:12-13, 15)
