But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. (John 19:34-35, Apostle John testifying of what he had witnessed with his own eyes)
Water
God uses water to symbolize that He is always with us and provides all our needs. God made water come from the rock, to provide for the children of Isreal while they were in the wilderness. (Exodus 17:6; Numbers 20:8) God also used water for healing: Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. (John 5:2-4)
God also uses water in baptism, as an outward symbol that our sins are washed away, because of the spiritual change that we have experienced: Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and [then] let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:28) The prophet Isaiah prophecied that John the Baptist would come: As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ [Isaiah 40:3]” John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mark 1:2-4; Matthew 3:11; Mark 1;8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; Acts 11;16) And he [John the Baptist] preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (John 1:7-8)
The water also symbolizes the gift of eternal life we receive through Christ: Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” (John 4:10) ...for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelations 7:17) Choose today to drink from the "living water", try Jesus for yourself: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8)
