GENESIS: Lord God and the Garden of Eden; "The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed."

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)

In the previous lessons, we studied about creation.  In six days, God created the heavens and the earth. Then God said, “Let there be..." Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;..." Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:1-31) God created, and then the Lord God made.

We can think of this relationship as an architect and a builder: God is the architect and created the blueprint of everything He desired; and Lord God is the master builder, bringing everything on God's blueprint to fruition.  The Lord God, Who is Wisdom testified to this fact; “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth; While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men." (Proverbs 8:22-31)

So the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.  Of all that God created, mankind is the only one that is a triune being, like the Trinity.  The Trinity is God the Creator and Father, Lord God the Word - the Son, and the Spirit of God; For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. (I John 5:7)  And man is flesh body - dust of the ground, spirit - breath of life, and soul -  living being.

...the spirit will return to God who gave it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7) For ... the body without the spirit is dead,... (James 2:26) Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,... (Ecclesiastes 12:7) But Jesus was clear to explain about the soul, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28) “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart [spirit], with all your soul, and with all your mind [and strength - body].’" (Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27)  Everything else God created, even the animals are just body and spirit; but we are also soul!

The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Genesis 2:8-9)

Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. (Genesis 2:10-14)

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:15-17)

The last day of creation declares, Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. (Genesis 1:31) So if everything was very good, when did good and evil come into existence?  We will study that in more detail in a couple of lessons, along with exactly what kind of "trees" were these...
