As we concluded in the previous lesson, Eve "ate", and then offered to Adam, and he "ate" the lies of ...that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world;...(Revelations 12:9) "You have eaten the fruit of lies,..." (Hosea 10:13) ...the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness,... (II Corinthians 11:3) And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. (I Timothy 2:14) "...the devil,... He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." (John 8:44)
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” (Genesis 3:14-15)
We understand from the previous lesson that "the serpent" was not a talking snake, but Satan himself, and “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God;... You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you." (Ezekiel 28:14-15)
So exactly what does this curse to "the serpent" mean? Remember, Lucifer was as high as any created being could be. “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!" (Isaiah 14:12) He was the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. But that wasn't enough for him; "For you have said in your heart:‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol [Hades], to the lowest depths of the Pit." (Isaiah 14:13-15)
Just like a real snake is one of the lowest animals on the planet, Satan too has gone from being the anointed cherub who covers, to being brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit. The woman Seed is the promise of the coming of the physical manifestation of the Lord God; And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory. (I Timothy 3:16)
He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel refers to the purpose that God would send "the Seed", God manifested in the flesh; ...the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (I John 3:8) "David,... being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades [Sheol], nor did His flesh see corruption. This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses." (Acts 2:29-33)
“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades [Sheol], where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15:54-57) Jesus Himself said, "I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death." (Revelations 1:17-18) Satan bruised His heel by having Him crucified, dead and buried; but on the third day, He bruised his head, by rising with all power and authority in His hand!
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith,... (I Peter 5:8-9) He promises the world, because he is ...the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,... (Ephesians 2:2) But all he can deliver is eternal separation from God. The coming of the lawless one [Satan's seed] is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (II Thessalonians 2:9-12)
But thanks be to God, for those of us who believe the Truth, through the woman's Seed, ...God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which He called you by [the] gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (II Thessalonians 2:13-14) AMEN!
